The End?

May 17, 2015

OK folks, here's the deal regarding the site.

At the start of the month, I received my annual invoice from the webhosting company where The Bloog is located. The bill amounts to $155.40.

As most of you already know because I've been mentioning it on my personal FB account, I recently had my car stolen. Even if and when insurance covers the loss (which will literally be any day now), I still have a $1000 deductible I need to pay on the policy. On top of that, I've been busy paying down a credit card debt that topped $8K last year, and although I'm paying three times the monthly minimum, it's still going to take about five more months to pay it off.

Now, I don't want to give people the wrong impression here. I'm not looking for anyone to pay for the server fees here. If I decide that it's worth it to pay for the site for another year, I can do that myself. The bigger issue at hand is that I'm beginning to wonder if The Bloog has run its course. Not only have I not had the time to update the site in any meaningful way, but in a lot of ways I feel like I've run out of things to write about. I've posted two items in two years; only one of these articles has generated any meaningful traffic (How to Screw Up a Sequel), and judging by the comments I've gotten it seems that I have an opinion that isn't just unpopular, but uniquely so. I know that a personal website is supposed to be done for the creator's enjoyment above anything else and that critics are going to complain regardless, but the fact that negative feedback seems to be the only feedback I get anymore leads me to wonder if it's worth spending $155 of money that I could better use other places so that randos on the internet can tell me how wrong I am about things.

So on that note, if you've been a fan of the site, whether you once knew it as "Tim C's Home Page" or "Loog's Lair" or "The Bloog", please leave a comment and let me know what you think. If I do end up letting the webhosting lapse, I'll probably move back to Wordpress or something along those lines and just have a personal blog there.

Thanks for reading - both this, and the site in all of its many incarnations.
